G.I.Joe

Was 1994’s G.I. Joe Blackstar the Beginning of the End—or an Underrated Gem?

Story by Mitchell Smith

Welcome to The Outpost. Today I’m taking a look at the 1994 G.I. Joe Star Brigade Blackstar. The characters developed in 94 are kind of a mystery. Most of the new characters were not included in a tv show or comic as far as I can tell, at least not to any degree where you could get to know the character. So a lot of them hold a lot of mystery to them. I personally love the space figures and wish that would have caught on a little better.

One nice thing about obscure characters is that I can let my imagination go wild creating adventures of who they may of gone up against in a battle or who they may have been trapped someplace with and ended up working with the enemy to get out of a sticky situation. The way the file card reads Cobra Blackstar is part of the secret forces of Blackstar pilots and this particular Blackstar is one of the elite space pilot. I tried to get some close up shots of the nice detail on this figure for those who may have never had this figure. I couldn’t find his pistol so I don’t think I have that, but it’s a unique design and looks really sharp. I also think this is one of the cooler projectile guns and I like to use it as a space cannon.

I love this figure along with many of the 1994 lineup. Who had a Blackstar back in the day? Who would love to see some Classified Star Brigade figures? Make sure to check back next week for the next discussion at The Outpost.
